I take on this question in my lecture Unending Life Within Your Reach, now available online for the next few weeks. Sponsored by First Church of Christ, Scientist, Watford, Hertfordshire, UK, the lecture was recorded live at the Palace Theatre in Watford on January 21, 2014. This one hour lecture introduces a Christian Science perspective of life before birth, the human experience and immortality. It presents the life of Mary Baker Eddy, founder of Christian Science, in the context of the religious and scientific questioning of her time on the subject of life and the afterlife. It addresses common questions about Christian Science and its contemporary practice:

The Christian Science Sentinel magazine, recently published one of my articles - "How long will this take?" - which shows a way out of the exasperation and annoyance that can crop up if a problem has hung around a bit too long. Here is a sneak peek: "I had a long-standing relationship problem during which I worked with a number of Christian Science practitioners to resolve the problem through prayer for a number of years. Then one day, when my thought was occupied elsewhere, the healing came. I was mad. Why now? Why was this healed on a day I had been praying about something else (in fact, praying for someone else)? Why hadn’t my first prayers been enough?..." If your interest is peaked and you would like to know why, read How long will this take? in the January 13-20, 2014 issue of the Christian Science Sentinel. You have access to the article for free on the subscription site JSH Online through the link on this blog. While you are there, you might want to look into this amazing resource for further reading on Christian Science. There, thousands of articles and testimonies on Christian Science healing are gathered together in one place - certainly more than worth the price of a subscription. Did you enjoy this post? Any move in a new direction begins with a thought open and receptive to changing, to responding, to growing. When thought shifts, lives tend to follow. And a New Year is fresh with opportunities to shift away from fear and limitation and the mundane sameness of everyday. "It is pretty special that our New Year always starts right after Christmas. I don’t think of a new year so much as a passage of time, but rather, as the natural progression to a new way of thinking and being that follows the Christmas season with its deeper focus on the Christ. "There is a great translation of Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians in the Weymouth New Testament of the Bible that says 'if any one is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old state of things has passed away; a new state of things has come into existence.' (5:17)" These are my opening remarks in a new nine-minute podcast posted on Christian Science JSH online, a website that brings together a collection of the best thinking and sharing on spirituality and healing through prayer. In my podcast entitled Forever New, I discuss the new beginnings that can follow a deeper consideration of the Christ. I speak from experience, sharing what led me to start over ten years ago - new language, new country, new family, new life - in France. If you have ever wondered how I wound up where I am, you might like to have a listen. And then, I would love to hear about your new beginnings. How are you being moved to drop fear and step forward into this new day, with all its unique opportunities for progress? Let me know in your comment below. And I hope for you a Happy New Year full of blessed new beginnings. Did you enjoy this post? Did you find it helpful?

Find me on YouTube I have practiced Christian Science professionally in some form since 1979. But my journey with Christian Science started in a Sunday school where as a young child I was taught the Scriptures and some simple basics of Jesus' method of scientific Christian healing. A significant experience at the age of twelve opened my eyes to the great potential of this practice. After impaling my foot on a nail, I prayed the way I had learned in Sunday school. Within moments the pain stopped and healing began. By the next morning the wound had disappeared completely. Having experienced the great potential of Christian Science, there would be no turning back. |
