How often do we fall into the trap of linking our problems in cause and effect fashion? For example, if we are unhappy at work do we assume it is the fault of the boss, our salary, the organization, or our own bad decision to take the job in the first place? Really, all that does is set us up to think there has to be some big change - and that it has to take a lot of time - before we can experience harmony and joy at work.
And that is a bunch of baloney.
In the psychology of Spirit, all true effect is linked to a divine omnipresent cause, to God. Knowing the one cause to be God, and the singular effect of this Cause to be good, opens the way to experience joy and balance and can lift burdens, without the need to wait for or to create a big change.
_Whether unhappiness seems connected to conflict or disappointment, boredom or stress, you can find the omnipresent joy that is yours and that doesn't depend on what you are doing or what is going on around you.
In Revelation, John sent a message to a worn down and burnt out church, saying that they needed to remember their first love. He wrote, "Thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent..." (Rev. 2:4,5)
Our first love, whether we have ever realized it or not, is to serve and express divine Good, God. Where you are doesn't much matter when you remember your first love. Whether sitting at a desk, hammering nails on a roof, riding in a train, or plowing a field; whether you stay at home or move to another country or take another job; security and worth, contentment and progress, are all linked to focusing on and fulfilling your first love. And
joy is an essential part of the top-paying salary you draw from serving Good. In fact joy is part of a compact - a contract - written between you and God. It is written in your being to feel and express the joy of your first love.
If you are having trouble finding your first love - difficulty seeing and serving divine Good right where you are - Benjamin Beddome's poem, Hymn 354 in the Christian Science Hymnal, may help you:
'Tis God the Spirit leads
In paths before unknown;
The work to be performed is ours,
The strength is all His own.
Supported by His grace,
We still pursue our way;
Assured that we shall reach the prize,
Secure in endless day.
God works in us to will,
He works in us to do;
His is the power by which we act,
His be the glory too.
There is no excuse for being unhappy at work today. Don't be squeezed into misery's mold. You are Love's, God's, joy. The capacity to see, serve and express divine Good is yours already right where you are. Don't wait. Claim your salary and spend your joy.

But my journey with
Christian Science started
in a Sunday school
where as a young child
I was taught the Scriptures and some simple basics

the great potential
of this practice.
After impaling my foot
on a nail,
I prayed the way I had learned
in Sunday school.
the pain stopped
and healing began.
By the next morning the wound had disappeared completely.
