My baby daughter was ill. She was feverish and stuffy. It was challenging for her to drink from her bottle. I cradled her in my arms until she was sleepy. Then, I put her in her crib and sat beside her in my rocking chair. Now what? The only things I could think of were the bottom-line spiritual facts that had brought me to this teaching: “God is All in all.” And, “God is Love.” I pondered these two all-encompassing ideas.
I don’t know how long I prayed this way but, at some point, I noticed that it was getting dark outside. And, that my little one’s breathing was easier and she was drinking from her bottle. She went to sleep and I went to bed. By morning, she was her happy, smiling self. And, so was I!
I’m still learning from that long ago healing. It is really natural to fearlessly trust the scientific, spiritual fact of God’s hereness and nowness and allness. It inspires confidence to know that the power of God is really and truly where we are. It is natural to feel comforted and blessed – to expect healing results, even if the grand revelation of God’s allness still feels new.
Yes, God is All and God is Love. God is with us. Always. Everywhere. Mrs. Eddy, the discoverer of Christian Science, wrote of God’s loving all-presence "from the rolling of worlds, in the most subtle ether, to a potato patch”! (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 26)
I now know that what I gave quite naturally that day was a Christian Science treatment. In fact, as time went on after that healing, I learned an important point about treatment through prayer. God Himself impels it. It is not really personal. It is the Christ, or the gentle, powerful influence of God Himself, moving human consciousness to the spiritual ideas that break the illusion of sickness and fear, and enables us to yield to God’s perfect law of healing.
